Is The World Ending in 2012?... Some Say Yes!
A college student named Jeffery Bartell wrote a paper in 1949. He concluded that the time immediately preceding the prophesied return of Jesus Christ had begun.
The scriptures make it clear that no one knows the day or the hour of Christ’s return. But the Bible does say that we can know the times and seasons surrounding His coming. Never before have the conditions been possible for so much of endtime Bible prophecy to be fulfilled as today. You may be thinking, “…so, because disease and immorality are running rampant, and because there are wars and rumors of wars, and that we have had a few more earthquakes, that Jesus is coming back soon? We’ve heard all that before.”
To Bartell, the Bible is the greatest book ever written. Its message is... read more
Why a new Chamber?
Let’s start by asking the question: “What is a Chamber of Commerce?”
There are many definitions for the term “Chamber of Commerce”, but the one I like most is from powerhomebiz.net: "An organization of business people designed to advance the interests of its members."
It makes sense then, that a Christian Chamber of Commerce would advance the interests of Christians, which should be: To share the good news about Jesus Christ with as many as will listen (or read).
The initial tools we’ll use to accomplish this are:
- A monthly, tabloid sized newspaper. (current edition is only 4 pages, but future editions should be 12 to 16 pages)
- A functional, dynamic web site designed to attract lots of visitors. (a work in progress... this is the very beginning of the site)
- Edification and encouragement of one another by fellowship and sharing of each other’s skills and knowledge base.
The concept behind the web site is to create a site which would act as a “portal” for shoppers looking for products and/or merchants while visiting Canton during the First Monday Trade Days.
That's a target audience of more than 1 million souls!
While this is hardly a “new” concept, there are some major differences between this and other sites which list vendors / products.
First, this site is designed to “serve” the public.
Remember, the whole purpose of this portal site is to expose as many people as possible to The Loving Word of The Living God through The Gospel of Jesus Christ.
In contrast, most sites which list merchants and products have a primary “mission” of earning a profit. There is certainly nothing wrong with that model, but it is important to understand the difference in purpose... the difference in the “driving force” behind those projects and this one. That doesn’t mean that the site (or the business model) won’t make profits. I believe that God will use this business/ministry to provide for my family and many others too.
Second, by providing FREE listings to local merchants, local churches as well as First Monday Merchants, we believe we can compile the most complete list of vendors supplying the First Monday crowd.
With such a complete list, the web site should become very popular with both shoppers and merchants, resulting in high traffic to the site. A high traffic web site should, in turn, entice maximum participation among vendors, thus completing the circle of supply and demand.
In addition to the FREE listings available to practically all businesses and churches, we will offer a variety of paid services which should monetize the site, which will allow more and more newspapers to be distributed. Examples of the initial services offered are listed in a comparison format on the back cover.
No Competition...
While we acknowledge that there are other web sites and newspapers which list merchants and there is another local Chamber of Commerce, our goal is to work with these organizations, not to compete with them.
Therefore, we will be listing (and even reviewing) various sites and organizations which serve the Greater Canton area and the First Monday Trade Days. Sure, there may be some overlap of available services, but we embrace the differences and the likenesses.
Membership / Listing
It is important to note that there is a difference in listings and membership. Any business, church, civic organization, government agency or individual may be listed.
Members are individuals who wish to participate more in the outreach aspects of the Chamber. To join (as a member), there is no fee, but we do ask that you examine your own heart and find that you have asked and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal savior.
Whether you opt for a listing (FREE or paid) or a FREE membership or both, you are cordially invited to participate. I know you’ll be blessed in ways which I can’t even imagine at this time.
Sincerely,
James A. Margrave
